My favorite Youtube channel right now (aside from Desus & Mero, of course) is Colors, a Berlin-based series where artists perform in a monochrome room. It’s a simple idea, brilliantly executed, with pristine sound design and lighting that makes every artist glow. One of my favorites is Tiana Major9 performing “Levee.” The studio version of the song is charming enough (and on the playlist below), but the Color performances bursts through the screen; it radiates urgency and grace. Her runs are flighty yet precise, her movements infectious, her outfits impeccable. The clunky shoes and black wire running off the screen lend just a smidge of dorkiness. It’s all an absolute joy to inhale for 3 minutes.
